Indiana Fever C Aliyah Boston leaves game vs Storm with apparent knee injury

Aliyah Boston had to be helped off the floor with an apparent right knee injury during the second quarter of Tuesday’s Indiana Fever game vs. the Seattle Storm.

Boston was moving to the lane to receive a Caitlin Clark pass when she tripped over Flau’jae Johnson’s foot. She appeared to land directly on her right knee and immediately grabbed at it in pain.

Players from both teams quickly surrounded Boston as the team trainer rushed out to check on her. She was helped off the floor and taken directly to the locker room.

Boston had has 11 points, two rebounds, an assist and a steal through 10:38. She will likely be replaced at the 5 by a combination of Monique Billings and Makayla Timpson. Billings is off to a strong start vs. the Storm, scoring 12 points and six rebounds in 15:57.

“AB is just AB,” Fever guard Sophie Cunningham said during a halftime interview with ESPN. “She’s an All-Star. She’s one-of-a-kind. She’s gonna be a hall of famer one day. So that’s a load for all of us to try and pick up. We’re trying to keep the energy, keep the vibes high. We’re gonna be OK. I think AB’s gonna be OK, too. But we have to focus on this game. We need to get it for her.”

Boston has been managing a right lower leg injury that’s caused her to miss three games this season.

She first suffered that injury during Unrivaled in February and has been dealing with it through the WNBA season. She did not play in two of the three preseason games, then missed the first regular-season game of her professional career on May 17.

Boston's status for the remainder of Tuesday's game is unknown.
